hmm just numbers but they meant a lot on sunday morning after waking up at at 5:30am to get ready to join 40,000 people in tst for the HK standard chartered race - full, half-marathon and the 10km...
sigh... i'm somewhat disappointed with that time, but i guess i can't complain as i really didn't train for this one and i did beat my previous time by a few minutes... a few minutes, what a difference that makes.
pre-race - i was so consumed with the time factor and setting high expectations for myself that when we started i actually forgot to start my timer, and then at the first water station i noticed my stop watch had stopped! argh so I reset it to find out it stopped again later... so crazy! i guess it was God's way of telling me, don't worry about the time or anything, just enjoy it... so i ran and kept running. i had several goals for this run, 1. to finish, 2. to run the whole way, 3. to beat my time, 4. not to get on the loser bus ha i guess i can tick them all off and another incentive was that if i beat my previous time, i get to go buy these shoes i like! can't wait :)
race - the best was targeting people on the race and matching their pace. for the first 5ks there was a guy wearing s tshirt that said "head of the pack" so i imagined myself as the "pack" and followed him... that was kinda fun. i lost him after the first water station but just kept running. the funniest thing was when i finished, this random guy comes up, says hi and mentioned that he followed MY pace for 15kms! how crazy...
post-race - i'm sore as... why do we do this to ourselves? good thing i took the day off work today, as i've been hobbling around the place and man, steps are real killers! especially going down them!! ahh will try avoid them for a while
and i'm doing a little experiment... i've massaged some menthol cream stuff on my right leg and some chinese ointment on my left hah let's see which one feels better in the morning! any bets?
it's back to some form of normality this week as we have on the menu: work, masterlife, lunch dates, a swim sometime, dinner dates, a movie perhaps... and so i continue to run that race called life :)
