living in hk suburbia

well it's been a week since we've moved out to the wapps... sham tseng. for some reason i was so anti moving out there, i think the whole idea of living in little matchbox apartments in high rised buildings in a housing complex with a club house and resident id cards was something i couldn't imagine, or a lifestyle i could live. especially at a time when i was really getting tired of hk and the city life, and just wanted to get away, go on holiday, be in a place where i didn't have to do anything, return calls, answer emails, go to meetings ahh... so now here we are on the 58th floor. i'm not scared of heights or anything, but its just that claustrophobic feeling of being crammed into these apts, with 7-8 other apts on the same floor, 71 floors high, 9 blocks... which makes nearly 4500 households in one complex! how crazy... and so the first few nights we were there, i ended up crashing at neena's on fri and then mandy's on sat... and then there's always tammy+nat's... hah i could do this all the time and live on the island all weekend!

I'm slowly getting used to the place and the view is amazing... this is the pool from my window at night and see sky and the sea and hear the boats at night, it's rather nice... i actually can sleep with my window open! love it... at first i was treating like a holiday in itself, being far away, different people, views, things to see and do... so its been kinda fun! almost feels like a little village in SEA or somewhere and i can practice my chinese with the 'locals' and there are so many guards so it's really safe. i haven't checked out the club house yet, so will do and if anyone feels like a trip out of the city, come visit!!

the only sucky thing is transport.. it's currently eating away at my bank account. by bus one way is $18.40 though it only takes me 30mins to get into central which is pretty sweet and the ride is quite cool, we go over a bridge and through a couple of tunnels. and on the way home i can take an overnight mini-bus which goes under these orange metal frame things (don't know what they're called) but it's my favourite part. the funny thing is that i met a guy who was in the year above me in my sis sarah's year on the bus one night.. how random!

oh speaking of random... we went on the NZ navy friggate when it was in town last week which was really cool. I was just excited to go on the boat and then when we were near by i realised that there were going to be all these sailors onboard in their uniforms and everything hehe... tho they didn't wear their hats booo... anyway one of the sailors there was in my uni!! it was so weird... and he recognised me too and came and chatted. we were in the same marketing classes though we never talked before, and graduated at the same time and then he joined the navy. small world!! the maori culture group did some perform, which made me miss nz. it was pretty intense as they dedicated it to the maori queen who recently passed away, so it was pretty emotional and i was standing right at the front. incredible stuff

so i'm living it up in hk at the mo. this week has been pretty crazy at work... i don't think i got home before 12 ... so i'm excited the week is over and i don't have to go to work tomorrow. we celebrated in the office with some cakes which are always good. and today we had 2 new people join the marketing team and on monday a new designer is coming in wohooo i'm so excited, i'm not saying who it is yet, as some of you will know who they are and they can tell you themselves :P

(mandy this post was for you, since i know you like staying up late on friday nights reading everyone's blogs! haha)
